Indentations (III)

Anderson Brothers fic by the lovely Emma, written for me for my birthday.

___

Cooper Anderson is twelve years old when he realizes his brother is going to be a star. Or at least that he has the potential to take the music world by storm. There’s no way it’s normal for a four-year old to have that kind of lung capacity. And it’s not in that annoying whiny-crying way like Jeffrey O’Connor’s little sister; Blaine can sing. And he doesn’t just sing- he’s aperformer.

When he’d finally grown tired of cheesy Saturday morning cartoons, Cooper had popped in a movie from his mom’s Gene Kelly collection (his guilty pleasure) and is silently rocking out to “Singin’ in the Rain” when he hears a shuffling sound coming from the foyer.

He gets up to investigate and has to choke back his laughter when he sees itty-bitty Blaine, his tiny feet lost in Coop’s sneakers, wielding an umbrella from the stand by the door like a lightsaber as he dances through the entry way.

“Ahm siiiiinnnggin’ in the rain, just siiiinnnggggin’ in the rain! What a gloooorrrious feeling, ahm haaaappppppyyy again!” Blaine sings at the top of his lungs, his surprisingly strong voice echoing through the stairwell.

Little Blaine is on his third run-through of the chorus when he realizes he has an audience. He stops stock-still and drops the umbrella, his eyes wide as he sees that he’s been caught.

“I… I…” he stammers, clearly unsure of what to say.

But Cooper just chuckles at his stunned baby brother as he walks over to the umbrella stand and grabs a prop of his own. He looks expectingly at Blaine as he begins to spin the handle around. “How’s it go?” he asks.

Blaine grins and retrieves his dropped umbrella, walking to stand beside his brother.

“Siiiiinnngin’ in the rain, just siiiinnngggin’ in the rain!” Blaine sings, stepping side to side as he flings his umbrella around in an adorable imitation of Gene Kelly. And Cooper just smiles and falls right into step.

That was when Cooper decided that he was going to be front row, dead and center at as many of Blaine’s concerts as possible.

His little brother was a rock star.
